A sustainable fish and chip shop in Stirling is set to close permanently on Sunday 7 July after running for almost five years.

Owner Amanda Prance said while she has loved running a business in her hometown, it is no longer a viable location to trade.

“It is with gratitude and sadness that we share the news that Angler Stirling will not be renewing our lease, and will close permanently on Sunday, July 7th,” Amanda Prance said in a statement.

A major fire in the Stirling Village Mall on 15 October destroyed the Woolworths store and several other businesses including a butcher and coffee shop.

The Stirling Traders Association has been rallying to get more people to come and spend money in the village township as many businesses have been struggling to spring back, especially in the current economic climate.

Amanda tells us it is one of the reasons Angler Stirling will not be renewing its lease.

“The Woolies precinct fire has certainly impacted Stirling massively. Certainly for us, I know some traders are still going okay, but there are more that are under pressure,” Amanda Prance said in an ARN radio interview with Jennie Lenman.

Angler has been recognised by shoppers and chefs alike for fresh, seasonal, sustainable and local products. The company was also the first in the state to dry-age fish.
