Medicare Mental Health Centre Opens in Hills

A brand new free Medicare Mental Health Centre has just opened in Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills.

The Mt Barker Medicare Mental Health Centre, at 2 Cameron Road, was officially opened yesterday, Tuesday 8th of April, by the Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Chris Picton.

The new, co-designed facility, offers free, confidential mental health services, support, and information for adults and teens over 16, all with no waiting lists.

The facility is one of more than sixty similar centres that will be opened across the country by mid 2026.

It is jointly funded by Federal and State governments through Country SA PHN and is operated by Summit Health. The team includes qualified mental health clinicians, peer workers with lived experience, specialist alcohol and drug workers, and nursing staff.

Among the 70 attendees at the launch were Rebekha Sharkie MP, Mayor David Leach, Summit Health CEO Kevin Wisdom-Hill, and Senator Karen Grogan.

The Centre is open from 9am to 6pm on weekdays (7pm on Thursdays). In future the facility will expand hours across the full week. For more information, contact the Centre directly on 8473 6900.
