Superintendent Joanne Howard has been in charge of the Hills and Fleurieu since February.

The 30-year veteran of SAPOL comes with experience in senior roles in traffic, intelligence and forensic services, as well as communications.

Superintendent Howard said she values SAPOL’s commitment to supporting domestic and family violence victims, and helping to reduce road trauma and educate Hills Fleurieu drivers about road safety.

As a member of the Australiasian Council of Women and Policing committee, she is also passionate about women succeeding in leadership roles in the state and country.

“Certainly 30 years ago there were not many female police in leadership roles and I’m pleased to say today that we’ve come a long way in supporting women to be leaders in policing,” Superintendent Howard told ARN’s Adam Connelly and Jennie Lenman.

Superintendent Howard encourages community members who are considering a role in the police force to apply with SAPOL.

“Whilst we’re dealing with difficult situations we are able to make a difference. It is rewarding, it’s rewarding to know that we can be there on people’s worst day that they’re experiencing and look after them and minimise any future harm that may come,” she said.
