Gifford Hill greyhound trainer Tony Rasmussen has been banned for life and fined $220,000, after Greyhound Racing SA found him guilty of 11 charges relating to animal mistreatment and misconduct.

The Integrity Hearing Panel overseeing the investigation deemed Rasmussen was guilty of ill treatment of a greyhound, failure to prevent pain and suffering and endangering the health and welfare of a greyhound, among other integrity charges.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, and now has seven days to appeal.

Tony’s wife Lisa pleaded guilty to three charges against her and was subsequently banned for 15 years and fined $20,000.

Aerial drone footage emerged last year of an employee allegedly mistreating greyhounds at their Gifford Hill property, with the pair subsequently suspended pending an investigation.

Greyhound Racing SA said it was the most significant penalty ever handed down by their organisation.
