The grand finals in the Hills, Great Southern and River Murray footy leagues are beginning to take shape, with the best locking in their places in the deciders across our regions. Catch up on all the action here:
HILLS FOOTY LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)
The weekend’s Division One finals action was one for the ages, with both matches separated by just four points.
The highly anticipated second qualifying final between Hahndorf and Nairne Bremer didn’t disappoint, with the Pies holding off a fast finish from the Rams (55-51) to book their place in the grand final in a fortnight.
Nairne Bremer will now need to beat Mount Lofty to get themselves back to the grand final, after the Devils pulled off a stunning comeback against Mount Barker yesterday, coming from 24 points down at half time to win through (65-61).
Over in the Country Division, their grand final next week is now confirmed, with Gumeracha to play Kangarilla, after they overran Birdwood to win by 26 points in Saturday’s prelim (104-78).
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
Victor Harbor are one step away from their first Great Southern premiership since 1999, after comfortably beating McLaren Districts 97-53 on Saturday in the second qualifying final.
A third quarter blitz helped the Roos past the two-time defending champions, with Harry Vincent, Ben Heaslip and Jackson Elmes all among the best.
It sets up a blockbuster prelim final next week, with McLaren Districts now set to play Myponga-Sellicks, after the Mudlarks smashed Encounter Bay by 51 points yesterday (110-59) in the second semi-final.
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
The Coorong Cats are into their first River Murray Footy league grand final, after they cruised to a 64-point win over Mypolonga (103-39) in the second qualifying final on Saturday.
The Cats were dominant from start to finish to keep their undefeated season in tact, with superstar Daniel Menzel kicking four goals to lead the way.
Mypolonga will now play Imperial in the prelim final next week, after the Double Blues beat Southern Mallee by 23 points yesterday (67-44).
It’s the second straight year that the Suns have been knocked out in straight sets.
