A research centre on the banks of the Murray River at Goolwa has finally opened, nearly five years after funding for the project was announced.
The Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Research Centre will work with researchers and communities to understand and adapt to changes in climate, as well as discuss priorities for the region.
Following advocacy from the Member for Mayo Rebehka Sharkie, $8 million of Federal funding was allocated for the Goyder Institute-run initiative in 2019.
It is anticipated the Murray Darling Basin will see more frequent prolonged drought events in future, along with more severe flooding and heavy rainfall events.
