More than 60 community centres across South Australia are getting a share in $43 million over the next nine years.
The State Government has almost doubled its spend on community centres to $6 million dollars per year, meaning our local centres in Goolwa, Murray Bridge, Tailem Bend, Milang, the Mid Murray and Adelaide Hills will receive a minimum of $99,000 each per year, which is an annual increase of around $20,000 pa.
Following a competitive tender process, the State Government’s revamped Community and Neighbourhood Development Program, will provide funding to community centres that show a strong connection to local communities as well as capacity to deliver appropriate and quality services.
Recipients include The Hut Community Centre Inc in the Adelaide Hills, Milang Old School House Community Centre Milang, Goolwa Community Centre, Tailem Bend Community Centre, the HUB (Mid Murray Support Service), Murray Bridge Community Centre and the Square Community Centre.
Community Centres SA Board chair Cristina Blumberg said the increased funding for is a significant and positive step forward for the sector.
“This funding will go a long way to assist centres with baseline infrastructure and resourcing costs and will help ensure the sustainability of the sector for years to come. A sector that makes a massive impact in people’s lives – by providing safe and nurturing spaces for connection and addressing systemic disadvantage at a local community level,” Christina Blumberg said.
